Eco Dog .... Tuesdays

How cool and fun is this.... Shelter going green?

The Humane Society of Silicon Valley in Milpitas, Calif., has opened what it says is the first animal shelter in the United States to earn a LEED (Leadershio in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification from teh U.S. Green Building Council.

The 48,000 square foot shelter, called the Animal Community Center, features cage free environments for pets awaiting adoption. It includes many earth-friendly features, such as a solar-energy system expected to generate 40 percent of the center's electricity, an energy-efficient roof, concrete flooring that absorbs and retains heating and cooling, and landscape with native plants. It also used more than 90% of the previous building on site.

This is my ultimate goal for Doglando.... maybe one day we can encorporate a rescue shelter to the list of services.... to be continued.
