ECO DOG TUESDAYS
If you are new to Doglando, you will learn very quickly, educating the pet owner to be a responsible pet owner is our primary goal. Every customer shopping at Doglando for their dog's food knows this. Here it is for the rest of you.
Specifically the protein source in the goes into the making of dog food is made up of four D's. If an animal is failed for human consumption due to any of the four D's it goes into dog food:
1. Dying: If the animal is dying, after death (or once killed) the animal is used in dog food. Think about the costs in raising animals such as cows for example..... to attempt to recoup some of these costs, meat farms will sell these animals to dog food companies to use.
2. Diseased: For the same reason above, an animal diseased and unfit for human consumption is sold for dog food.
3. Damaged: Take for example cows. When they are moved through shoots for hormone vaccinations or antibiotics etc... they are not moved in the most human manner. The animals are forced to move through small spaces, and because of their familiarity with the outcome of going through the shoots, they are quite non-cooperative understandably. So, as they move through these areas, they bang against metal or whatever else, bruising their muscle, damaging their meat for human consumption. How fussy are you about your steaks? Bruised meat makes it chewy to eat, so it will go into to dog food instead.
4. Disabled: Same as the rest, if an animal is disabled it will be used in dog food.
It is important to know of a few terms that pertain to dog food.
What is rendering: Dead animals are not always rendered immediately after the death of that animal. Especially in cases of the four D's as mentioned above. "Because of this, it is estimated that E. Coli Bacteria contaminates 50% of meat meals. The rendering process destroys the bacteria, but it does not eliminate the endotoxins bacteria release when they die. These endotoixn, which can cause sickness and disease, are not tested for by pet food manufacturers." (www.rense.com)
When the meat arrives to the rendering plant (including all the old meet at grocery stores, road kill, etc), it is put into a huge vat and then shredded. Then it is cooked at a very very high temperature. The accumulated grease that sits on top of all this as it cools down, is scooped up and used as "animal fat." The rest is pressed and dried, and referred to as "meat and bone meal."
Are there really companion animals in dog food?
As disgusting and cruel as it may seem, where do you think it all goes: to fill our land mines?????? or do you think they get mass cremated or buried?
It is so costly for veterinarians to take on cremation costs, that even though they may directly send them to a facility that cremates in masses, ultimately it ends being used as protein" in pet food. Reporter John Eckhouse was amongst the first to discover this practice.
